THE HONOURABLE AND DISHONOURABLE ART OF ACTING

 Malcolm Jones

Historically, actors were often seen as rogues and vagabonds. The road to respectability was a long and lively one with some fascinating characters. It was not until the start of the 20th century that acting was seen as an “honourable” profession with the emergence of great actors such as John Gielgud, Laurence Olivier, Peggy Ashcroft and Edith Evans. Our lecturer, Malcolm Jones, has had a distinguished and varied career in the theatre, acting and directing as well as working back stage. He has taught acting both in America and in England and

has provided educational material for the

National Theatre Education Department.
